Posting a letter

Russian mail approximately 10 years ago had an unparalleled reputation on the world stage for delayed and lost letters. Progress has been made since 2000, and now it is safe to say that few letters are actually lost. You can simply expect delays. A typical letter mailed to Europe or the U.S. will take 2 to 3 weeks in transit. Sometimes more, sometimes less.

Here are some key addresses for those who would like to post a letter :

Main Post Office. Address : 26 ul. Myasnitskaya. located next to metro Chisty Prudi. It's open 24 hours. You can post letters and postcards here.

Central Telegraph Office. Address : 7 ul. Tverskaya. You can also post letters and send faxes and email here.

International Post Office. Address : 37 Varshavskoye shosse. Located outside the center at metro Nagatinskaya. This is where you need to go to mail packages which require a customs declaration.

Express Courier Services

DHL is the leading international courier service. It's also by far the most reliable and has the best customer service. If you really next to get something to somebody outside of Russia in a rush, try DHL. They have lot of offices and drop-off points throughout Moscow.

The most central drop-off point is their office at the Centrqal Telegraph Office, 7 ul. Tverskaya, just steps from Red Square. They are located at window number 6. Phone : 956-10-00. Hours : M-F 10:00-20:00.
