Cathedral of the Archangel Michael

the Archangel Michael (Arkhangelskiy sobor) was for centuries the
coronation, wedding and burial church of the tsars. It was built by
Ivan Kalita in 1333 to commemorate the end of the great famine.
It was rebuilt in 1505-08.
The tombs of all the Mucovy rulers from from Grand Duke Ivan I (1320) to Tsar Ivan V (1690) are here. The one exception is that of Boris Godunov, whose body was removed on the order of a False Dmitry and buried at Sergeev Posad in 1606.
Designed in the spirit of the Italian Renaissance, it's four heavy square pillars take up much of the dimly lit interior, which is covered in frescoes.
