Tretyakov House (Russian Cultural Foundation)

Address : Gogolevsky bulvar 6

This detached house belonging to S. M. Tretyakov, Mayor of Moscow 1877-1881 and one of the founders of the Tretyakov Gallery, was originally an early 19th-century house in the Classical style. It was reconstructed in 1871-1875 by the Tretyakov "family" architect A. S. Kaminsky, which is why the exterior decor predominantly imitates the forms of Old Russian architecture characteristic of the Gallery itself. At the end of the 19th century the house contained a rich collection of paintings willed by the owner to the Tretyakov Gallery. The splendid metal fence and beautifully executed interiors from that period have survived.
